Chipping Norton – the gateway to the Cotswolds – is a bus ride from Site. Its parish church is one of the finest in the country. The town has a museum, cinema, theatre and leisure centre. There are many antiques shops and plenty of places for eating out. Hook Norton brewery is open to the public. It still uses a steam engine and other traditional methods. Hidcote Manor has gardens in an Arts and Crafts style. Stratford-upon-Avon is known as the birthplace of Shakespeare. It is also home to the Butterfly Farm and Teddy Bear Museum. Winston Churchill’s birthplace at Blenheim Palace and his grave at Bladon are worth a visit. Oxford is accessible by bus from outside the Site. Visit pubs frequented by writers CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein. Explore the history of the oldest university in the English-speaking world – by tour bus or on a walking tour. Bourton-on-the-Water is an elegant town. Its attractions include Birdland, the Dragonfly Maze, the Perfumery and the Motor Museum. The local inn serves good food.
