Site DescriptionThe town of Crowborough was developed as a resort on the edge of Ashdown Forest in Victorian Times. The views across the Forest are superb. The south coast is only 20 miles away.

Crowborough

Crowborough town is a ten-minute walk from Site. It has a good range of shops and several eating places. Crowborough Leisure Centre is next to the Site. It offers discounts to campers for the swimming pool. The children’s play area, skateboard park and running track are always open. There is a mini steam train and a boating lake just outside the Site. Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, was born in Crowborough. Visit his home or take a guided tour of his favourite places. Eastbourne and Hastings both have lovely beaches and many attractions for all the family. A bus from outside the Site will take you to Tunbridge Wells, Brighton or Lewes. Lewes has many antiques shops. Its celebrations on Bonfire Night attract 20,000 visitors. Four steam railway lines are close. The Bluebell Line is home to the original Stepney from the Thomas the Tank Engine book series. Sheffield Park is one of 15 National Trust properties in the area. It is a magnificent garden with four lakes. Take a day trip to France from nearby Newhaven or to London from Jarvis Brook station. The Site is very popular with tent campers. There are many pitches particularly suited to tents.
