Hampton Court – Henry VIII’s majestic palace on the Thames – is a walk away from Site. Visit the State Apartments and 60 acres of gardens. Trains to London leave from the station, around a mile away. Visit the many attractions, including HMS Belfast or the Thames Barrier. Sandown Park racecourse is at Esher and holds regular race meetings. Chertsey Museum is home to over 15,000 objects, from Runnymede social history to fantastic fashions. There are three theme parks in the area. Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and the unbeatable Legoland are all a short drive away. Claremont Landscape Garden has a spectacular three-acre turf amphitheatre, unique in Europe. The glorious gardens of RHS Wisley are also nearby. Walk along the river bank into Hersham. The local golf course gives a discount to campers. There is also a fish and chip shop and supermarket. The Site at Walton on Thames is a lovely place to get away from it all, with limited facilities. Campers who prefer a toilet and shower block may stay at Chertsey or Horsley.
